Title: My First Scout
Story: I bought my first Scout on July 17 1976. I had driven a school bus the previous year in high school and had saved up some money. My parents gave me $1000 as a graduation present. I had tried to buy a 1970 red SR- 2 but the fellow sold it a day before I could get by there. Then "IT" showed up. My uncle was the local IH dealer and on July 3rd a New Spiirt of 76 scout showed up. 304 V-8 W/R 4 spd 3.54 axles 10x15 tires soft top and so on. But at a $6400 price tag I new I could never afford it. I worked my butt of in tobacco that summer. And I continued to save money. Finally on July 17 my parents slipped off. When they came home they were driving the Spirit. They had taken the money I had saved and the graduation money and bought the scout. Of course I had to finish paying for it. On final note I have been a die hard IH man all my life. All we ever used here on the farm were IH tractors and trucks. Those "green" tractors sucked as far as I am cocerned! They still do!!!
