I knew nothing of the pastime. A few of the pictures were of a SII with a rag top and doing some crazy things on the rocks. The seed was planted! A few weeks later, I saw in the local Truck Trader a '68 S800 just up the street from me. I went to the address, The Mystic Book Store. When I went around back, there it was, Orange, huge, and jumping at the leash. I went inside the book store, and had to wait for the guy to come out from a Yoga class to talk to me about the truck. Asking price $2,500 but in rough shape and not worth that much. By this time, the rest of the class lets out, and this woman is explaining here dilema about some mattress that she had to move from one apartment to another. I had a pick-up, so I offered to give here a hand. When we got back, I offered them $1,500 for the truck, and he guy got approval from the woman, and we did the deal. She even offered to throw in some fresh baked chocolate cookies with the deal, but I would have to come back the next day for those. Later I learned that the whole mattress thing was a test to check out how my karma was. They wanted to make sure that their Scout was going to a good home. Apparently they had the price jacked up to turn away people who they didn't feel deserved a Scout. That was 3 Scout's ago, and I still keep in touch with the guy who is driving it now. His name is Matt too, Karma coincidence? I think maybe so... Contributer: Matt Clark? If you are Matt and wrote this story please E-Mail me the rest of it! |
