Perhaps it was her unique, no frills design that caught my eye as I saw her sitting at the store with a sign taped to her. The cab was painted this "textured" flat black about halfway down the bed, no tailgate. By the way, it had been a long- wheelbase 1110 back in '72, but along the way a top-quality body man had cut the frame and did a drunken sawzall/poprivet job on the bed to shorten her up some. It had this redneck- designed front bumper that would have made Smittybilt jealous (I later removed it for two reasons: I didn't want anyone to steal the copyright and it made those IH springs squat 2"). And like my first girlfriend, this was a heavy monster, weighing in about 2 tons, full of loud scary noises, and pretty uncomfortable to be around. It had drums all around that NEVER dreamed about stopping some new 36" Swampers that came with the deal. It had one wheel that would lock up and scare the hell out of people with the squeal at a red light. She's come a long way though, from really really junky and rusty, to a little less junky and rusty. Contributer: Brent Hulgan |
