Title: Cyrus.........
Story: I have a 1968 Loadstar 1700 that is lovingly referred to as "Cyrus"...... I collect old tractors.. and the Ford F-350 that I had for hauling them was adequate... but I had always hoped to upgrade to something a little heavier. The Ford was a fixed bed car hauler, and it had a 12 volt winch that was fine for cars... but not quite heavy enough for disabled tractors....
I attended an equipment auction last Spring, and one of the items in the auction was Cyrus. This truck appeared to be just what I was looking for. A 24' bed, 20 ton hydraulic winch, new tires and only 73,000 miles. When they got around to selling the truck, they attemped to start it.... Rrrrrr rrrrr rrrrr BANG !!! Rrrrr rrrrr rrrrr BANG !!!! The truck was backfiring like crazy... but wouldn't start.... They finally blew the muffler off with one of the backfires and they proceeded to sell the truck as a non running unit. The truck was in such good condition that I took a gamble and was the successful bidder at $1800.
I figured the rollback bed and winch had to be worth what I paid for it.....
Turns out the problem was that someone had been tinkering and had the spark plug wires off... and in the process had crossed some of the wiring up causing the backfiring problem. Once the wires were installed correctly the truck ran fine. I have to wonder if that wasn't the reason the owner decided to sell.......
At any rate, I'm glad he did sell it as this truck is a great tractor hauling unit. The rollback and 20 ton winch really does the job when loading and unloading tractors. There is no comparison between hauling with this truck and the lighter F-350. The old Binders were great trucks and I plan on keeping this one for a long, long time.
